Psychologist & Speaker

Consenting Adults is a trailblazing and illuminating book for anyone in a relationship, particularly an unconventional one, who wants to examine and deconstruct the implicit, and frequently internalized, mono / heteronormative assumptions that can lead to dissonance and fragility and reconstruct a relational ecosystem based on authenticity and integrity.

Consenting Adults

Reimagining Commitment for People and Relationships That Defy Convention

What if healthy relationships aren't defined by following the right path or fitting a traditional model, but by integrity, ongoing choice, and consent?

For people exploring thought-expansive and unconventional relationships—including non-monogamy, queer relationships, chosen family, platonic partnerships, or being childfree-by-choice—traditional relationship advice can often feel limiting or mismatched to the lives they’re actually living.

Drawing on research and more than two decades of clinical experience, Beth Gadomski invites readers to question inherited relationship scripts, navigate change and uncertainty, and create relationships that reflect who they actually are.

This book is so timely, especially in an era where conservative relationship values are being promoted and all other ways of relating are facing more sociopolitical sanctions than ever. When it becomes difficult to sort through the noise of what other people consider to be a good relationship dynamic to determine what would be good for you, Consenting Adults provides a way of thinking it through. Its gift is that it doesn’t answer the question on your behalf. It provides a framework for you to decide for yourself, consensually, with your partner(s). And that framework is anchored by the idea that relationships are not figments of our fantasy—they have to be lived in integrity, practiced daily, allowing for fluidity and evolution. It’s a must-read.
